The Witch Riding Your Back

I've been reading up (on wikipedia of course) on sleep paralysis, something i've experienced for the last few years on a pretty regular basis. Basically, what happens during normal REM sleep is that the brain becomes hyperactive and the body is in a state of paralysis, 'sleep paralysis' occurs when the brain regains conciousness during REM sleep. The body remains in a state of paralysis and the experience usually coincides with extremely vivid hallucinations.

Pretty. Fucking. Terrifying.

"This leaves the person fully conscious, but unable to move. In addition, the state may be accompanied by terrifying hallucinations (hypnopompic or hypnagogic) and an acute sense of danger. Sleep paralysis is particularly frightening to the individual due to the vividness of such hallucinations."
I'm not sure i want to sleep now.

"The person may think that someone is standing beside them or they may hear strange sounds"
Eek.

  3. it happens to me quite often. It just happened again this morining! I wake up to the feeling of someone getting in my bed but when i try to open my eyes, I can't! Then I feel them laying on me and I can"t move. I always starts repeating the Lord's Prayer until it goes away. This morning, I could feel a hand on the back of my neck, holding me down. When I said the prayer the first time, I couldn't verbally say it, but I could hear myself mumbling. Then, I could move my arms. I reached behing me and could feel his body. As I continued to pray I kept pulling at him and began rocking my body until he fell beside me. I forced my eyes open and SAW him. He looked soooo scary. He honestly looked like a mad black man. I held onto him and started my prayer again. He cringed and yelled, "WHAT IS THAT?!?!?" I just started saying it louder, and he kept trying to get away from me. Eventually he vanished and I waoke up mumbling the Lord's Prayer as if I was chanting it but couldn't open my mouth.

  5. I had this happen last night 04/10/2011 I was dreaming that I was checking my front door making sure it was locked. But when i reached for the handle someone on the outside was trying to get in.My body was still and I couldn't move as much as i tried I couldn't. I couldn't even yell out it's like my mouth was covered, but i could here myself moaning trying to get my husbands attention to move or push me. finally, after all the noise I made he screamed out to me and whatever had me paralized let me go and I woke up. I was terrified and I still am.

  6. Ok this has happened to me as a child and even into my adult yrs. i have not said the Lord's prayer when it happened i realized that if i kept still and didnt try to fight it, it went away it's like whatever it is thrives on you trying to stop it,the more you try to move, the more you try to scream the tighter the grip gets. I have learned to relax and try to go back to sleep and when i awake again i then can move and speak and i have'nt had an episode for quite some time now maybe thats the answer DON'T FIGHT IT!!!

  7. I no it wasn't nething like Wat the doctor's said, or Wat u call it. It happened to me when I was 16 in job corps. The girl that slept above me in the bunk beds had a boyfriend who died on the football field the yr b4 I got there. The dorm was named after the founder of the job corps who went into a small surgery n didn't make it. 3 kids went a-wall to a small shallow lake n drowned at this place n everyone said it was built on sacred Indian grounds. I was having a nightmare 1 night of a woman and a man fighting. My dream was cut off by this nightmare n didn't make since so I started to wake up. I sleep with my arm under my pillow and on my side most of the time. I was 20% awake when I felt something poke my pillow. I thought nothing of it but I felt un easy. A few seconds went by n the same poke but this time it was a hard poke n no matter how tired I was I couldn't help but to crack my eye open n saw the boy in the picture my roomate showed me of her boyfriend who died on the football field! He was see through but I could see his features and the shirt from the picture he had on. I freaked out but was only 75% awake and I turned on my back and tried to jump up but something was on my chest. I closed my eyes. Then when I opened them I looked to my right out the corner of my eye and saw a huge black shadow of something that looked like a man with a cape. The boy disappeared n this thing was moving across the room toward me. I could hear my heart about to burst outta my chest. I looked straight up at the top bunk n tried to kick her bed but my legs weren't workin. By then I closed my eyes n said just wiggle ur toe. When I opened my eyes the thing was just starting to bend over me n lookin right in my face. I turn my head to the wall n repeated "your not real n you can't hurt me" over n over untill I could move n scream n my chest stop hurting. Btw I though the boy who haunted the room his girlfriend stayed in tried to kill me n my sleep n take my soul but I really believe he was waking me up from something else trying to hurt me. That is why I think there is a thin line between sleep paralysis n a incubus or whatever was in my room that nite! It's been 15 yrs n I remember everything just like it happened yesterday...
